EXPLORE THE WORLD…
THROUGH GOOGLE EARTH
Recently a movie called Lion was released. The movie was a true story based on five year old Saroo who fell asleep on a train, which takes him thousands of miles across India.
Saroo survives many challenges before being adopted by an Australian couple.
25 years later, Saroo hears about a program called Google Earth, and uses the tool’s satellite imagery to find similar landmarks, which leads him to the train station where he got lost, and traces his way back home to reunite with his birth mother.
If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly recommend it! However, the movie highlights how amazing the Google Earth technology is.
WHAT IS GOOGLE EARTH?
Google Earth is a program which enables you to explore the globe with the swipe of your finger (on a tablet or smartphone), or with your mouse (on a computer).
You can fly through 3D cities like Tokyo or Rome, or walk the streets of Paris. The choice is up to you, and you can do it from the comfort of your own home!
Let’s take a stroll down the Champs-Élysées together….
1. Click on Search (looks like a magnifying glass in the top left corner) icon
2. Click into Search field, and type the address that you want to visit
For this example, we are visiting Champs-Élysées in Paris, However you can put any destination you like! Perhaps you could put the address of a house you use to live in!
3. When the options appear, click on the option you want
4. Use your mouse to double click on an area of the city you wish to visit. As you double click, the image will zoom in
READY TO TAKE A STROLL THROUGH THE STREETS?
5. Click on the icon of the person (bottom right corner), and hold down the left click while you drag the little man onto the street
This will enter Street View where you can literally walk down the street of Paris!
6. Use your mouse to move around the screen. You can look left, right, up and down.
7. To walk up the street, double click in the middle of the street
And there you have it… you can explore the earth right from your computer at home!
We would love to hear about the places your explore, and what you think of Google Earth, so drop us a line at hello@www.readytechgo.com.au
