The Undo Shortcut
THE UNDO SHORTCUT
You may have heard of it, but how do you use it?
Mistakes happen to everybody, if you’re an astute reader of our newsletter you’d know that even we make some small typos every now and then!
When they happen usually you can just backspace and re-type what you originally meant.
But what happens if you accidentally highlight everything you’ve typed and hit backspace? It’ll unfortunately disappear. Now this wouldn’t be a problem in Microsoft Word, you could just open your latest save. But what happens if you were typing an email and it happen? Emails aren’t usually saved.
This is where the undo function comes in handy!
Because of how long computers have been around, 99% of all programs and apps allow the use of the undo function even if you’re not typing. For example, in file explorer if you accidentally delete a folder, you can press the ‘Undo’ shortcut and it’ll bring the folder back. The same goes for deleted text.
However, undo can only do so much, it can only fix recent mistakes and usually only if you notice right away. While limited, the undo function is extremely helpful, I even had to use it writing today’s newsletter since I accidentally deleted the whole thing!
On Windows you can undo by pressing ‘Windows Key + Z’
On Mac you can bring up the emoji keyboard by pressing ‘CMD + Z’
